The aim of this activity was searching for differences between the ancient Olympic Games and the modern ones. Students were given two texts - one was a simplified tape-script of a discussion between Solon, a wise Athenian politician and Anarchasis, a foreigner. Solon explains to a new comer some rules concerning bringing children up in Greece and the ways sports events are organized. After reading the text students had to act the first scene of the dialogue, showing the picture Anarchasis is witnessing. Next, each group answered one question they were given in random. We recorded their answers. During the next activity students read a text about the Olympic Games and searched for differences between these customs and the modern ones. They analysed their duration, opening and closing ceremonies, participants, objectives of the games, social positions of ancient and present attenders and prizes. They arranged the way of showing differences by themselves. After that all the posters were displayed in the school hall.
