French and Italian students together with their English hosts paid a visit to the Magna Science Adventure Centre near Sheffield. Located in a disused steel mill, the four pavilions related to Earth, Fire, Water and Air offer a series of unusual exhibits like the awesome five metre high fire tornado. Here the kids had the extraordinary opportunity to participate in a workshop aimed at developing their critical thinking and problem solving skills. By examining a crime scene with an eye to forensics, they gathered clues, compared blood splatter patterns, analysed fingerprints and DNA patterns.

The workshop aimed to motivate pupils to have a go, puzzle over problems and think through answers. Plenty of elements gave them the opportunity to  develop ideas of scientific nature to solve complicated matters  using skills such as observing, exploring, asking for information, deducing ,  making and sharing conclusions.
