With the help of a digital medium, the students discovered the different pieces , the basic rules of the game and the way pieces are moved on the chessboard.
After that first step, the pupils were divided into groups including experienced players and beginners.
The beginners  tried to remember the rules, with the help of the students who were able to play. Then, they started playing games. Other students practised online games.
Some beginners were quite worried at the beginning of the activity, because they thought chess was a complicated game. But they were soon reassured and with the assistance of more experienced friends, everyone made good progress.
Most pupils wished the activity had been longer. The teacher encouraged them to practise at home, with friends, or online.
